Girls Scouts Making Comic Books

Some day in the near future you may be able to sit down to eat some Girl Scout cookies while reading a comic book created by a local Girl Scout.

Maybe Empire's Comics Vault would have even played a small part in that, because back in January, we welcomed to the shop local Girl Scouts cadettes to learn about comics creation.

The Heroic Girls Foundation along with professional comic book artist Justin Greenwood hosted the event.

"We need to improve the representation of women and girls in pop culture," said John Marcotte, founder of the Heroic Girls Foundation.

I'm proud of locals like HeroicGirls.com and Justin Greenwood for taking the lead in this initiative. It's just another reason I love Sacramento.

Lastly, if you haven't experienced Justin's art yet, you're in for a treat. Be sure to check out his work in comic books like Stumptown, Compass, Crone, The Last Seige, and others. You may also enjoy this Justin Greenwood interview.

Below, you can watch the CBS Sacramento story about the event.

So, you see, we can practically guarantee that one of these young creators will be a future comics star. Just you watch--and do me a favor, will you? In a few years, if you hear about one of these stars before I do, please let me know.
