Celebrating Children's Book Week May 4-10, 2015

We're excited to announce that we're celebrating Children's Book Week (CBW) for the first time this year.

For 96 years CBW has been promoting literacy, and it's about time this local comic shop became involved.

As you know, we promote reading with Rolly's Reading Program, a program that provides a deep discount on all our children's titles, and Rolly's Summer Reading Program, which ran for the first time in 2014.

We're offering the following two specials for CBW, May 4-10, 2015:

  • 25% OFF all comic book titles for Children (from the young children's wall) and for Teen readers. Young children and teens must be present with an adult/parent for this offer to be valid.
  • Comic Book Trade: When children/teens create their own comic book (1-page minimum required) and give it to us, we'll let them choose 1 free comic book (from select titles). Download and use our 1-page panel layout or make your own.
"Children's Book Week is administered by Every Child A Reader, a 501(c)(3) literacy organization dedicated to instilling a lifelong love of reading in children."

The official hashtag for CBW is #CBW15.

Checklist of kid's titles for Free Comic Book Day 2014

Free Comic Book Day is an excellent time to get the kids reading -- and it's just in time for summer reading when kids often fall behind in their reading ability.

ALSO AVAILABLE: Download a checklist of the complete FCBD 2014 titles.

Comics combine art with words for the perfect reading experience. In fact, there are some great titles for children this year. Take a look at the checklist of free comic books for your young readers. Download it and bring it with you to make sure you get the titles you want.

FCBD at Empire's Comics Vault in Sacramento

At Empire's you can take one copy of each title that you want to read. Just leave behind the titles you don't want, so that someone else can enjoy them. We're giving out 15,000+ comics this year. That's quite possibly more than any other single shop in Sacramento.

Free Comic Book Day Mini-Con starts at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 3, 2014.

You'll meet the West Coast Avengers, Supreme Pro Wrestling, Sac City Rollers, Darth Vader's 501st Legion, and many local artists, writers and comic book creators.

Rolly's Comic Book Reading Club for Children

We believe that parents should be rewarded for encouraging young readers. That's why we started Rolly's Reading Club. It's available for children 12 years of age and younger. The number one benefit of joining is a permanent discount of 20% off all new and back issue comics in the children's section. Learn more about this program and download an application today.

Free Comic Book Day Checklists for All Titles or Just Kids

All FCBD 2013 Titles
Whether you visit Empire's Comics Vault or another shop, you want to make sure to track which titles you collect that day.

Take One of Each Comic Book at Empire's Comics Vault

Of course, at Empire's we let you take one of each title that you'd like to read!

If you're not so lucky as to live in Sacramento, you may have visit multiple shops to get all the titles you want. I know I've done that before, and it's a fun way to spend the day.

We put together these two checklists for you -- one for all titles and one for the kids.
