Artist Melissa Pagluica on GoodDay Sacramento

Recently Melissa Pagluica was featured on GoodDay Sacramento. We wanted to make sure you didn't miss it!

To call her only an artist is an injustice. Melissa is not only an artist but also a storyteller, comic book creator, and an inspiration. In this interview you'll get a glimpse at her creative process and also her passion and drive to create beautiful works of art.

Meet Sarah Straub at Creative Women Mini-Con 2014

Artist and illustrator Sarah René Straub returns to Creative Women Mini-Con for her second appearance on Saturday, September 20, 2014.

Sarah is the creator of the comic Blind Follies: The Flower and Death and colorist and letterer for Shane Matthew Murphy's Birdland comic. She draws inspiration from fairytales and mythology.

"From as far back as I can remember, I have always been weaving tales, crafting whatnots, and creating drawings inspired by the fairytales, myths, and fantasy stories on which I was raised," says Sarah.

Sarah has participated in numerous comic book conventions and art related events, including, Anime Expo, StocktonCon, SacAnime, Crocker-Con, Fanime-Con, Emerald City Comicon, 2nd Saturday Sacramento Art Walk, Angel's Art Gallery, and Creative Women Mini-Con 2013.

It's a pleasure and a privilege to have Sarah with us again at CWMC. You'll enjoy meeting her and discussing all things creative.

Meet Krysten Reis at Creative Women Mini-Con 2014

Krysten Reis is a full-time 2D artist at a small local game company. She's also a freelance artist and a co-creator of the comic book, "A Curious Journey."

Krysten was a recent winner in the "Veronica's Pick" category of The Mary Sue Design Contest for her piece entitled, The Geek Girl.

Krysten has exhibited at SacAnime, SacCon, Creative Women Mini-Con 2013, Free Comic Book Day Mini-Con, A-1's Creator Con, and others. She's also an artist for Sacramento indie comics publisher Scattered Comics

Meet Alexis Villanueva at Creative Women Mini-Con 2014

Alexis Villanueva, Artist and
Founder of House of Doodle
Alexis Villanueva, a.k.a. "Doodle," is a lifelong artist and the proud owner and founder of a creative company, playfully named "House of Doodle". Alexis is classically trained in all mediums and graduated from the Savannah College of Art & Design.

House of Doodle specializes in comics, illustrations, concepts and designs and is based in Stockton, CA.

Alexis and House of Doodle have have been featured at StocktonCon, Big Wow ComicFest, and the 2012 Stockton Thunders Caricature Auction artist. Alexis has been featured on Good Day Sacramento and also on a panel discussion at StoctonCon.

Alexis is working on a comic book, Anonymouse, that is expected to be released in 2015. She is passionate about developing new artists, and via House of Doodle, she provides instruction through private lessons and mentoring.

Meet Jen Monson at Creative Women Mini-Con 2014

Jen Monson and family

Jen Monson loves the creative process and experimenting with new mediums. Take, for example, the dried avocado pits she's carved and turned into necklaces. She's also recently begun to explore working with melted crayons.

It's not just that she takes on art forms new to her, but her adventurous approach. "I want to be able to take all I have learned, and work it in a new way, never done before," says Jen.

Jen's creative works have been showcased at Empire's Art Gallery, Cool Cat Gallery, A1's Creator-Con, and numerous craft shows. She'll also exhibit at an upcoming SacAnime.

We're pleased to have Jen with us for her first Creative Women Mini-Con. Come over to meet Jen on Saturday, September 20, 2014.

Meet Ilana Hack at Creative Women Mini-Con 2014

Ilana Hack, Video Editor,
Film Writer, Artist
Ilana Hack is a freelance Video Editor and the writer of Bereaved, a short film. Ilana studied film and received a Bachelor's Degree in Cinema Studies from The University of Central Florida. She's also a painter and craft artist.

Bereaved will debut at the 15th annual "A Place Called Sacramento Film Festival" on October 5, 2014 and is described as follows:

"In an endless parade of funerals, one limo driver's life takes an unexpected turn the day Gloria Steinberg speaks to him from the back seat."

Since childhood, Ilana wanted to work in film, and she is currently living that dream-come-true. She's worked in television at the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium (SECC) and also wrote and edited the 2013-2014 season the SECC series Student DV.

In addition to her own film projects and client work, she has edited short films such as Off the Mark, which played at the 2013 Place Called Sacramento Film Festival, and Conversations with the Devil, which played at the May 2013 FilmSlam.

Not to be missed is her art. Her painting style delights the eyes and inspires the imagination.

We're excited to have with us such a talented artist at our second annual Creative Women Mini-Con on Saturday, September 20. Please join us and meet Ilana Hack.

Crocker-Con expands in 2014

This year Crocker-Con is also taking over the courtyard in order to make this festive event both indoors and out!

The Sleeprockers (video below | @sleeprockers on Twitter) will lay down some fresh beats with a special nerdcore set. The Crocker's FB event page adds that you'll enjoy "featured artists from DC Comics, Marvel, and Dark Horse Comics; hero-inspired art talks; and a special appearance of those legendary bad guys who do good, The 501st Legion."

You've already heard that Empire's Mobile Lounge will be busting out the Jenga-thon, so all that's left is a Twitter list of attendees (coming soon). See you there.
