How to Enter
- In one hundred words or less, write a love letter to your favorite comic book character or sci-fi/fantasy character or any celebrity. Please keep it all ages appropriate.
- Email it to email@example.com, using the subject line "Be My Valentine," or post it on our Facebook page, with the title "Be My Valentine," no later than 11:59:59 P.M. Pacific time on February 14, 2012.

The "Be My Valentine" Contest ("Valentine Contest") began February 1, 2012 at 12:00:01 A.M. and ends at 11:59:59 P.M. on February 14, 2012.
To enter, write a love letter of 100 words or less ("Submission") to your favorite sci-fi, fantasy, comic book character, or celebrity. Email your entry to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line "Be My Valentine" or post it on our Facebook page at http://facebook.com/EmpiresComicsVault with the title "Be My Valentine." One entry per person or e-mail address. Any legal resident of United States age eighteen or over can enter, except employees, agents, or representatives of Empire's Comics Vault (“Sponsor”) or affiliates, or any member of their immediate family. Entries that are lost, late, misdirected, garbled, or incompletely received, for any reason, including by reason of hardware, software, browser, or network failure, malfunction, congestion, or incompatibility at the Web site or elsewhere, will not be eligible. Empire's Comics Vault in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the entry process, the operation of the Web site, or otherwise in violation of the rules. It further reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or modify this Valentine Contest if not capable of completion as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, force majeure, or technical failures of any sort.
Entrants represent and warrant that their Submission is their original work, it has not been copied from others, and it does not violate the rights of any other person or entry.
All entry materials become the property of Empire's Comics Vault and will not be acknowledged or returned. The copyright in any submission shall remain the property of the entrant, but entry in this Valentine Contest constitutes entrant's irrevocable, perpetual permission and consent, without further compensation or attribution, to use the Submission and the entrant's name and city and state for editorial, advertising, commercial and publicity purposes by the Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor, in any and all media now in existence or hereinafter created, throughout the world, for the duration of the copyright in the Submission. Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor shall have the right to edit, adapt, and modify the Submission. Each entrant releases and discharges the Sponsor, the judges, any party associated with the development or administration of the Valentine Contest, their employees, agents or representatives or any of their parents, subsidiaries, sister companies, or affiliates from any and all liability in connection with the Valentine Contest, including without limitation, legal claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages, demand or actions of any kind.
Three winners will be selected from Submissions by a member or members of Empire's Comics Vault (the “Judge(s)”). All three winners’ Submissions will be published on any or all of Empire's Comics Vault's Web pages and online social network properties, along with each winner’s name. All decisions of the Judge(s) are final and binding.
The winner of each contest will be the person whose caption received the greatest number of valid votes (“Votes”) from the public and who satisfies all of the rules (“Qualified Winner”). Any resident of United States or Canada (except residents of the province of Quebec) age eighteen or over can vote, except employees, agents, or representatives of Advance Publications, Inc., or any of its parents, subsidiaries, sister companies, or affiliates, or any member of their immediate family. One Vote per person or e-mail address. Please click on Vote for Your Favorite for details on how to vote for particular finalists and on the deadlines for voting.
The Judge(s) will tabulate the Votes and announce the winner on any or all of Empire's Comics Vault's Web pages and social network properties. All decisions of the Judge(s) are final and binding.
The First Place Winner will receive three (3) free comic books, each retailing at $3.99 or less, for a total retail value of approximately $11.97 or less. The Second Place Winner will receive two (2) free comic books, each retailing at $3.99 or less, for a total approximate retail value of $7.98 or less. The Third Place Winner will receive one (1) free comic book, retailing at $3.99 or less. If any winner cannot be contacted or does not respond within three (3) days, an alternate winner may be selected, at the sole discretion of the Judge(s). Income and other taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner.
Subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void outside the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and where prohibited.
The Prizes ares not transferable. No substitutions for the Prizes except by Empire's Comics Vault, in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be substituted.
All entries become the property of Empire's Comics Vault and will not be acknowledged or returned.
Except where prohibited: (i) acceptance of the Prize constitutes consent to use winner’s name, likeness, and winning entry for editorial, advertising, and publicity purposes, without further compensation; (ii) winner may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and copyright transfer/liability/publicity/permission release. If the winner is deemed to be a minor under the jurisdiction of his/her residence, the parent or legal guardian must execute the necessary affidavit and release. Affidavits and releases must be returned within ten (10) days of attempted notification or an alternate winner may be chosen.
